Half-court magazine
Idea & Concept
Half Court is a lifestyle magazine inspired by the fashion in the NBA with the point of view. of the players through the season. Half Court is made to highlight the different styles worn by other players and the story behind them. Half Court features articles on outfits, jewelry, and more. I chose a landscape layout to match the negative space, the typography, and the imagery. Each composition explores structure and chaos with a strong grid and strategic breaking points.
Research - VISUALIZATION
Idea & Concept
Pre-visualization plays a vital role in magazine design, as seen in a project utilizing collage techniques, typography, and impactful messages. Two visually stunning boards were created to convey a powerful message of representation and culture. These collages were then scanned and used as the foundation for the magazine's creation.
Collage Technique and Photography: Magazines were carefully dissected, and cutouts became the core material for collages. Original photography added a personal touch, blending with found imagery for a unique aesthetic.
Strong Typography and Message-driven Design: Bold typography was chosen to complement visuals, amplifying the message of representation and culture. Text and visuals worked harmoniously to create a cohesive narrative.
Creating the Boards: Collages were arranged on two boards, forming visual storyboards. The arrangement prompted emotional responses and curiosity, engaging viewers with the underlying themes.
Transitioning to Magazine Creation: Collages were scanned, preserving details and textures. These digital assets were then repurposed, serving as the backbone for magazine design and layout.
Through collage, typography, and powerful messages, pre-visualization work brought representation and culture to life. The visual language established in the boards resonated with the audience, resulting in a magazine that effectively communicated its message.
